David J Smith

Dave is a leader at the intersection of aviation electrification, decarbonization, and microgrids. He has led microgrid studies and design projects at six international airports including JFK (2), Atlanta, Houston, Denver, and Pittsburgh. Dave has also been on the frontier of fleet electrification and helped lead the electric infrastructure and EV charging assessments for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at over 50 sites including all five Authority Airports throughout the New York Metro Area. He has additional microgrid experience working for customers including New York Power Authority, the states of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the City of Philadelphia. Dave is an expert in distributed energy resources and has experience developing and implementing clean and low carbon technologies including Solar PV, battery energy storage, fuel cells, thermal storage, cogeneration, and all varieties of prime mover engine and turbine generators. Dave presents regularly at industry events and has authored numerous articles and whitepapers about microgrids and, most recently, the Strategic Electrification of Transportation. Dave has an AB in Economics from Harvard, and a Master of Science in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania
