Alternus, Acadia Energy Partner to Deploy 200 MW Microgrid Projects in New York

Utility-scale transatlantic independent power producer (IPP) Alternus Clean Energy has partnered with Acadia Energy, a renewable energy company focused on developing utility-scale solar and battery storage. The collaboration will co-develop 200 megawatt (MW) microgrid projects in New York State.

Over the next 2-3 years, the jointly developed microgrid projects will help realize the goals under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). They will create numerous green jobs across several cities and businesses in the state, as well as create a strong foundation for New York’s green economy.

According to Construction Review Online, Acadia will take the leadership role in the direction of operations and Alternus will be involved in project supervision.

Acadia holds the promising prospect to develop over 1.5-2.0 gigawatts (GW) of renewable projects, with various sizes ranging from 20 to 50 MW. Currently, Acadia is focused on negotiations with agencies that control the microgrid construction process.

“With Alternus Clean Energy coming onboard, we are now scaling up our microgrid efforts and deploying this state-of-the-art technology at a faster pace across Upstate New York. Our joint goal for the area is clear and Acadia’s strong expertise in building a portfolio of 1.2 gigawatts can only enhance the chances of success,” said John Bay, CEO of Acadia, in a statement.
