Walmart Partners with Nexamp to Build 31 Community Solar Projects Across Five States

Walmart has partnered with solar company Nexamp to invest in 31 community solar projects throughout Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and Minnesota to generate approximately 120 GW of solar energy.

According to Environment Texas, the projects are scheduled to become operational in mid-2025 through 2026. Once completed, the solar arrays will provide clean energy to around 8,000 residential customers.

Walmart recently completed 74 community solar projects with Solar Landscape. The retail giant has a target of 10 GW of new renewable energy projects by the end of 2030 and 2 GW has been allocated for community solar.

Community solar offers access to solar energy for Americans who can’t install their own systems and empowers them to get their electricity from nearby solar farms. It is currently allowed in 20 states across the country.

“Kudos to Walmart for financing rooftop community solar projects. Walmart can make an even bigger impact for its customers and for the planet if it makes a company-wide commitment to install solar panels on all of viable roofs and parking lots,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America Research & Policy Center.
