Steve Jones

Steve Jones

In July 2021, Steven Jones joined UL as Lead Regulatory Engineer in the Codes and Regulatory Services Department. In this capacity, Steven is responsible for leading UL’s regulatory efforts in the Southwestern United States, serving the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), International Code Council (ICC), and other industry entities. He will provide code expertise and standards-related guidance to regulatory authorities, manufacturers, designers, and contractors. Steven will also lead and actively participate in model code development efforts and support code-based advisory services solutions for UL clients and municipalities in these disciplines. Steve has been appointed to serve as UL’s Alternate for CMP 15 under the 2026 NEC Code Cycle, the International Residential Code – Building Committee (IRC-B) as a member, and served on the IAPMO – Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa & Hot Tub Code Technical Committee for 2024 code cycle.

Before joining UL, Steven worked for 21 years as the Assistant Building Official, Senior Building Inspector, and Plan Checker for the City of Oceanside. He is a certified electrical and mechanical code specialist, plumbing inspector, plans examiner, and building official, and in addition, he holds 16 other ICC certifications. Steven is an accredited LEED Green Associate demonstrating knowledge of green building practices and standards related to buildings’ design, construction, usage, and maintenance. Steven is also a 20+ year member of IAEI, serving at the Division, Chapter, and Section levels, and was the 2016 International President. Since 2015, Steven has served as the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC) Chair.
