Kelly Speakes-Backman is a nationally recognized clean energy thought leader who leads Invenergy’s policy and corporate affairs activities. Most recently, she served as the acting assistant secretary for the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office, where she led a $3.2 billion portfolio of renewable power, energy efficiency and sustainable transportation. Previously she served as the first CEO of the Energy Storage Association and before that as a commissioner of the Maryland Public Service Commission. Speakes-Backman currently serves on the External Advisory Board of the Georgia Tech Strategic Energy Initiative, and as a Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Ambassador. She has spent more than 25 years working on energy and environmental issues in the public, NGO and private sectors.
