Biography

Jim brings to MCE over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, with a background in clean energy technologies. In his role as Distributed Energy Resources Manager, Jim is responsible for implementing MCE’s DER programs, helping shape DER policy and strategies, and explores new initiatives that bring value to customers while helping reduce overall costs for MCE, with a special focus on providing resiliency for customers impacted by wildfires and other disasters.

Jim has been a leading voice in developing policies that support DER and renewable energy in California and beyond. Prior to joining MCE, he managed utility solar and electric vehicle programs, led strategic planning efforts to support clean energy development throughout the Western US, provided expert testimony in regulatory and legislative hearings, and managed utility metering, rate design, and billing functions.

He’s held positions at a variety of organizations in the energy industry, including the energy storage developer Stem, the non-profit advocacy organization Vote Solar, PG&E, several startup energy technology companies, the City of Alameda’s municipal power agency, and a municipal joint powers authority in North Carolina.

Jim is a graduate of the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business with a B.S. in Economics.
