The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is seeking battery energy storage system (BESS) developers to submit proposals for a 100 megawatt (MW) BESS system at its Kingston Energy Complex in Roane County, Tennessee.
The complex, which is currently under construction, will deliver 750 MW of combined cycle natural gas, 800 MW of flex-fuel aeroderivative turbines, 100 MW of battery storage and up to four MW of solar power. In total, it will generate enough electricity to power approximately 900,000 homes.
TVA is asking for proposals from qualified integrators and providers to design, engineer, build, operate, and maintain the BESS. Interested developers should preregister at tva.com/KingstonBESSRFP to be a part of the bid process.
TVA’s current plans include building around 5,500 MW of new firm, dispatchable power generation by 2029, according to a statement.
Aside from the Kingston complex, the utility has begun construction in Shawnee, Kentucky, Cumberland, Tennessee, and Johnsonville, Tennessee. TVA has completed 1,400 MW of new gas units at Paradise in Kentucky and Colbert in Alabama. There are currently other new generation projects under consideration in Tennessee.
TVA is the country’s largest public power supplier. It delivers energy to over 10 million residents across seven southeastern states and has one of the most diverse energy systems, including nuclear, hydro, solar, gas, and advanced technologies.
