America’s largest and oldest high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cell manufacturer, Suniva, has partnered with leading U.S. solar panel manufacturer Heliene Inc. to secure a deal with Corning Incorporated to provide the U.S. domestic market with the only solar PV module made with polysilicon, wafers, and cells made in the United States.
Corning is supplying the wafers and sourcing Hemlock Semiconductor’s (HSC) hyper-pure polysilicon.
The wafers and polysilicon are produced in Michigan; the solar cells are made in Georgia.
The new module contains solar cells made of up to 66 percent domestic content — the highest percentage on the market. Solar developers who purchase and utilize these solar panels will be able to claim the Investment Tax Credit domestic content bonus.
“This partnership is a significant milestone for the U.S. solar industry,” said Martin Pochtaruk, CEO of Heliene, in a statement. “By combining our strengths, we are able to deliver not only a high-performance module but also support the domestic economy and American job creation.”
Matt Card, President of Suniva, added, “Together, our companies offer the only solar cell in the market that provides U.S. developers maximum ITC domestic content advantage – while building a domestic supply chain that provides for American energy independence and a strong manufacturing base.”
