National Grid Renewables announced it has broken ground at its 100 MW Apple River Solar Project in Polk County, Wisconsin.
Once complete, the Apple River project is set to supply power to Xcel Energy for its customers across the Upper Midwest.
The project is expected to have a positive effect on the local economy by creating new jobs and tax revenue. In fact, it is estimated that Apple River will bring in over $36 million during its first 20 years of operation, including approximately $10 million in tax revenue to Polk County and local townships.
The Boldt Company will be heading the construction efforts, creating 150 construction and service jobs. Apple River intends on using First Solar Series 6 Plus bifacial modules.
“As a company founded by a farmer in the Midwest, we have a strong commitment to bolstering rural economies through our renewable energy projects, and it’s exciting to see that growth in western Wisconsin,” said Joe Ibrahim, Vice President of Construction at National Grid Renewables, in a statement.
The project is scheduled to begin operation in late 2025, generating enough renewable energy to provide the equivalent electrical usage of around 26,000 homes each year.
It is expected to offset CO emissions by 129,900 metric tons annually, which is the equivalent of taking 30,900 cars off the road each year.
