ABB Invests $120M to Expand US Manufacturing of Grid Electrification Equipment

ABB, a global engineering company, announced it will be investing $120 million in the United States to expand its production capacity of low voltage electrification products; the investment will allow ABB to meet increased demand from customers in a variety of growing industries, including data centers and utilities.

Notably, the company anticipates the creation of 50 new jobs at a new advanced manufacturing center located in Selmer, Tennessee, along with doubling the size of its existing manufacturing site in Senatobia, Mississippi. The expansion will create an additional 200 jobs.

The Selmer location is an $80 million investment and will be built into a 320,000 square foot facility. With an expected opening date in Q4 2026, the new factory will manufacture essential electrical distribution equipment for large-scale industrial and technology-driven facilities, including data centers, factories, and high-rise residential and office spaces that need a reliable power supply.

ABB’s busway and bus plug products help businesses simplify their power distribution and support seamless expansion or reconfiguration without the need for extensive wiring.

“Demand is increasing steadily for advanced electrification technologies, driven by growth in key sectors including data centers and utilities. Today’s announcement will support our future growth in the US, ABB’s largest global market,” said Morten Wierod, ABB’s Chief Executive Officer, in a statement. “Our new facilities in Selmer and Senatobia will keep our US customers at the cutting edge of the energy transition, and help them meet their performance, productivity and energy efficiency goals.”

ABB has invested over $500 million in its U.S. businesses in just the last three years. A new $40 million ABB factory is slated to open in Albuquerque, New Mexico in April 2025, to produce the latest power grid hardening and resilience technologies.
