Former California Assemblyperson Nancy Skinner was honored with the Champion of Change AWARD for her decades-long dedication to developing renewable and solar energy. Since the 1980s, Ms. Skinner has worked on global warming and environmental policy, and her commitment and hard work have been instrumental in passing several critical pieces of legislation, such as AB 510, California’s highly successful net metering law, and AB 2514, which increased the amount of energy storage installed in the state.

Intersolar North America 2015: Kick-off to an exciting week at Intersolar North America
Hundreds of visitors crowded into the InterContinental Grand Ballroom to kick-off an exciting week at Intersolar North America 2015. The opening ceremony featured a top-notch line-up of speakers, including Tesla’s co-founder and CTO JB Straubel, Fraunhofer Institute director Eicke Weber, CALSEIA executive director Bernadette Del Chiaro and New York State Senator Kevin S. Parker. In his greeting to attendees, Prof. Weber highlighted the tremendous success of the global solar market, which has installed 177 GW to date. Prof. Weber also noted the importance of PV and battery technology in combination to grow solar in the coming years.
A popular startup focused event at Intersolar North America 2015 was the Growth Company Circle, dubbed “speed dating for solar.” This new, innovative special event sponsored by SunPower was produced in partnership with SfunCube, the world’s only incubator and accelerator dedicated to solar. The Circle provided 30 entrepreneurs with an opportunity to connect with 30 investors and potential customers.
Solar Battle of the Bands, founded in 2011 and produced by Quick Mount PV, is a unique industry event for solar professionals coinciding with Intersolar North America (not affiliated). SBOB brings solar professionals together through a friendly competition of industry bands and is regarded by many as the “best solar party of the year.” more
California Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. was met with a standing ovation as he delivered the keynote remarks at Intersolar North America’s Opening Ceremony. Following the Governor’s remarks, San Francisco’s Mayor Edwin M. Lee took the stage. New York State Senator Kevin S. Parker similarly championed local policies that have grown the solar energy industry significantly in New York. Franz Untersteller, minister of the environment, climate protection and the energy sector, Germany, discussed the major policy incentives implemented in Germany that have played a key role boosting the solar industry. Finally, CALSEIA’s executive director Bernadette Del Chiaro concluded the session with a discussion of California’s solar policies and an inspirational call to action, asking the audience to help quadruple the solar industry in the next six years.
