10:30 Session I: Saving Customers Money with Solar + Storage – Non Residential

What is the profile of the ideal non-residential storage customer? How do you design and size the system appropriately for the customer? What are the different types of customers and how does storage work best for each one? What kinds of questions do you need to ask and what kind of data do you need in order to appropriately size and design a storage & PV system?

What can you expect to learn?

  • What is an attractive load profile for commercial storage?
  • What additional steps are required in the design process?
  • Will installing storage impact my solar installation schedule/process?

11:40 Session II: Incentives and Rates

What’s the latest with the SGIP rebate program? What changes are underway and what does the landscape look like for 2017? What are the other incentives or consumer-driven economics at play with regards to pairing solar with storage? And, finally what are the current rate structures that work best for solar + PV systems and what changes are coming down the pike influence a consumer’s decision to add storage to their solar system? This workshop will also briefly cover ITC basics with regards to storage. A particular focus on SDG&E and SoCal Edison, where appropriate, will come with this section.

What can you expect to learn?

  • What are the different incentives in place in California to help drive consumers toward storage? How might these incentives change in the near future?
  • What are the different rate structures in place today that favor storage for both residential and non-residential IOU ratepayers? How might these rate structures change in the near future?

12:40 Lunch Break

1:45   Session III: Saving Customers Money with Solar + Storage – Residential

What is the profile of the ideal residential storage customer? How do you design and size the system appropriately for the customer? What kinds of questions do you need to ask and what kind of data do you need in order to appropriately size and design a storage & PV system?

What can you expect to learn?

  • What kind of customer might be a good candidate for residential storage?
  • What additional steps are required in the design process?
  • Will installing storage impact my solar installation schedule/process?

 2:55  Session IV: Selling Storage

So, you’ve found the ideal customer for storage + solar but how do you seal the deal? What kinds of unique-to-storage strategies are there to help you get the customer to yes? What are the unique barriers to selling a storage system? What are the most common consumer questions?

What can you expect to learn?

  • What are the BTM value streams for C&I installations? From savings, from revenue, & from incentives?
  • What are the energy storage transaction business models?
  • How can energy storage be deployed (front of the meter, behind the meter, no meter)?

4:00  Session V: Qualifying for SGIP Rebates: The Nuts and Bolts Presented by PG&E

This workshop will cover some of the battery chemistry issues unique to storage systems from a health and safety perspective. It will review the current codes and standards related to installing behind-the-meter storage systems and as well as changes to NEC Article 706 that are under way.  What are the best ways for interacting with AHJs when seeking a permit for a storage system? A particular focus on SDG&E and SoCal Edison, where appropriate, will come with this section.

What can you expect to learn?

  • What guidelines exist for energy storage permitting and inspection processes?
  • What electrical, fire, and building code standards are applicable?
  • What can an installer to do streamline the permitting and inspection process?
