Intersolar North America welcomes international exhibitors and world class speakers at exhibition and conference

Today, July 12, 2011, Intersolar North America, the premier solar industry exhibition and conference in North America for solar professionals to exchange information and develop business opportunities in the U.S. solar market, kicks off three full days of cutting edge products and innova-tions from leading industry companies from the United States and abroad as well as specialized work-shops and seminars during its fourth annual exhibition and conference in San Francisco. This year proves to be noteworthy, with registered visitors representing 62 countries and exhibiting companies from 30 countries around the world. Intersolar North America provides a true global perspective of the solar industry while focusing on the momentum and challenges facing the North American market.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary as a global exhibition and conference, Intersolar North America is the largest solar exhibition in California, the United States’ leading solar market. This year, Intersolar North America features an impressive 800-plus solar exhibitors with the co-located SEMICON West across a record total of 170,000 net square feet of exhibit space—a 30 percent growth over 2010—from across the United States and around the globe. Attendance is expected to reach 22,000 as visi-tors flock the Moscone Center to see the latest offerings from within the solar industry throughout the three days of the exhibition and four days at the conference.

The U.S. market saw impressive growth in 2010— according to the U.S. Solar Market Trends 2010 report by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), the capacity of photovoltaic installations completed in 2010 doubled reaching 981 megawatts compared to the capacity installed in 2009—and the industry is focused on maintaining impressive growth throughout 2011 with many experts fore-casting that the market will again double in 2011. Over 200 speakers are presenting across more than 30 sessions at the conference, taking place at the InterContinental San Francisco next door, covering hot topics in the solar industry from policy to energy storage to permitting, as well as the latest in photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies, all with a focus on how to grow and accelerate the North American solar market.

The official conference opening at 10:00am in the InterContinental Hotel features San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee, who will make the welcome remarks ahead of a distinguished panel of speakers that includes Mignon Marks, Executive Director of the California Solar Energy Industries Association CALSEIA; Prof. Dr. Ramamoorthy Ramesh, Director of the SunShot Initiative and Solar Energy Tech-nologies Program at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE); Katharina Reiche, Parliamentary State Secretary of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety; Prof. Dr. Eicke R. Weber, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.

“San Francisco is proud to host the Intersolar North America Conference and Exhibition for the fourth year in a row,” said San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee. “San Francisco is home to more than 30 solar manufacturers, developers, installers and policy organizations, and has led the nation in bold and ef-fective policies that drive solar adoption, so there's no better place for the solar industry to come to-gether and meet.”
